Meniscus Tear is the tear of the C -shaped knee cartilage that cushions the tibia and femur bone mainly occur’s after forceful twisting or rotation of the knee.

Meniscus Tear Causes

Traumatic meniscus tear- occurs due to sports related injuries such as falls and blow to the knee.

Degenerative meniscus tear- occurs due to age-related wearing and tearing of the tissues of the knee

Meniscus-Tear Diagnosis

Your doctors will obtain medical history followed by an examination to confirm the diagnosis. By performing Certain special tests we can establish the diagnosis.

Supportive Imaging test such as X- rays and MRI  can confirm the diagnosis.

Management

Certain Meniscus Tear will heal on itself such as a longitudinal tear, but certain tear needs surgical interventions.

Non-Surgical Treatment: RICE protocol is used to treat meniscus tear such as rest, ice pack application, compression and elevation. NSAIDs used to relieve pain and swelling.

Surgical Treatment: If the symptoms persist even after nonsurgical treatment, your doctor will suggest for arthroscopic surgery by inserting a miniature camera through a small incision to get a clear view, A partial Meniscectomy or meniscus repair is performed depending to the type of tear. This will be discussed at the consultation.
